Running TB 89.0 on Windows 10. My question is: when I make a backup copy of my PROFILES it will include the LOCAL FOLDERS containing 30 subfolders with a current total of 249 individual messages. IS there a way to just backup the LOCAL FOLDERS and not the entire Profile folder as the LOCAL FOLDER changes with additional messages to the subfolders almost daily.

It's safer to backup the entire profile. Are you asking about a POP type account using the Global Inbox option? Aren't newly received messages coming in to the account's Inbox folder?

Thanks for responding LIMPET and Dan: Yes I am using a POP type account - not using the Global Inbox option for my two accounts -one TB (which has the Local Folders subfolders) one Gmail . And yes the messages I place/move in the Local Folders subfolders come into my account Inbox. So you recommend backing up the entire profile, Dan. Unclean on LIMPET'S comment?

Hi, Do you mean this one?

T'is because you are using version 89.x & not the release version of v78.0.x & posted in the wrong forum.

That's all.

The rest below the line is my Sig.

There used to be a utility program, called "Mozbackup" that would do all of this for you for Firefox, Thunderbird, or Seamonkey. It has been unsupported for a long time, but continued working anyhow. I really doubt it still works. I wish someone would pick that back up and get it working again, as it was very easy to use and just plain worked.

There's an easier way to back-up your Profile.
Just copy "n" paste it to the same directory & it will be re-named as xxxxxxxxxxx COPY (1)

The details for MozBackup...

Yes, I see no benefit in just backing up a portion of the message data. BTW, may I ask why are you moving all incoming messages from the account inbox to Local Folders?

Dan wrote"BTW, may I ask why are you moving all incoming messages from the account inbox to Local Folders?". I am basically a novice when it comes to the nuances of Thunderbird, however I have been using LOCAL FOLDERS for some time now and have created subfolders therein to hold selected messages deemed important from credit card companies, online retailers, credit union, ISPs etc - in other words as an archival repository for these messages. You may know of a better way that I am unfamiliar with.

LIMPET wrote " Just copy "n" paste it to the same directory & it will be re-named as xxxxxxxxxxx COPY (1)" Question by same directory do you mean the directory that contains the Profile? Can one then copy it to an external thumb drive or CD?

That's actually the recommended way to deal with messages you wish to hand on to. It just sounded odd in light of the fact that you were asking about backing up that Local Folders, apparently in preference to backing up the account Inbox, the usual point of concern.

You can move/transfer/copy it to anywhere you want.

You're welcome...

May I also suggest, that after you install an extension or modify that working Profile, that you remember to update it, the same way.
It will show up as > xxxxxxxxx -Copy (2) & you could remove the 1st one if required.

Never thought of doing that, and might give it a trial run.
