Was planned to be released version 68.0 on July 9, 2019 but was released version 60.8 has a new release date?
Thunderbird does not release on specific scheduled dates, because they ship when code is ready and tested.
http://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Home#Releases The July 9 date was for the desktop Firefox 68.0 Release (and also for Android).

As things stand it seems version 68.0 has a problem with the built-in spellchecker not working as it should. See Jorg K's post here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1565919
I would suspect it likely it won't be released until (at minimum) that bug is fixed. At the end of the day Thunderbird is all about writing and text entry so it would seem to me to be sensible to not release a version until such times as this can be managed well with a spell checker. I'm just guessing of course but I wouldn't want them releasing it with such a basic fault. OS: Windows 7 Pro. SP1 x64

Do you recommend to update immediately (from 60.8), or wait for 68.1? For a not so sophisticated user that depends on it for business. (BTW, 60.8 and 68.0 is pretty confusing, I thought I had the latter, while I have the former...) Thanks.
I would recommend waiting for 68.1 in six weeks or whenever it is released. I'm pretty sure the developers plan a 68.9.0 soon. Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
