I know that the calendar data format is defined in rfc2445. I'm thinking about writing a simple (I hope) Perl script to translate my Palm data file into a calandar ics file.

Does anyone know the algorithm used to generate the UID or, does it matter as long as it's unique?

My guess is that it's random, and that the value does nothing at all ;) To be sure, you would have to look at the source code or ask the developers (via the newsgroup or IRC). It's probably easier just to go with a random value that looks right.

Thanks. I found a round about way of doing what I wanted by exporting the Palm info as a vCal file, importing that into Mac's iCal and then moving the ics data file into the FF profile ( I'm using the calendar extension - not Sunbird).

It worked great. Unfortunately I found that once there was a lot of data in the data file, any editing or adding of an event was VERY SLOW.

Luckly I found that the Mac iCal application was quite good.
