it being on the left means having to go back over there, instead of finding it in the (intuitive, to me) place of as-you-go-right, in the direction the new tab will be.

also, can the 'close' button be put into the tab, instead of having it sit alone? this isn't as big a deal as the tab icon, but as long as i'm at it.

Right click on it -> Customize and move it where ever you want.

ok thanks, but when i right-click on the new-tab icon i don't get an option "Customize". i get 'close tab' and 'renew tab' and 'undo tab' and such.
and i went to that link and it left me none the wiser.
sorry for being a dolt (or at least a noob), but is there another way to move it?

You clicked on the "+" icon in the tab bar? Anyway, try to do the same on any empty space of the tab bar.

And the second one is for the close button location.
First read here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration
Then change that setting appropriate.

i clicked on the page-with-the-sunburst-type-thing-on-it at the extreme left of the tab bar, which is what my new-tab icon looks like.
and i clicked elsewhere on the bar, including empty space, but get the same choices.
but i'll try that new link.

You can also try to right click in the menu bar (on empty spaces).

yes, i see that when i right-click on the navigation bar i get the 'customize' option, but when i right-click on the tab bar i get different options. (i took a screen shot but don't know how to paste it in here.)

EDIT: this is from the "Help Contents-Tabbed Browsing" menu:
"Opening a New Blank Browser Tab:

...

* From the Tab Bar: If visible, click the "new tab" icon
on the left side of the Tab Bar."

so it reads like the icon is supposed to be at the left side and may not be moved.

As far as i know nearly everything is moveable.
Enable Customize and drag the icon.

The open and close tab buttons on the tab bar can't be moved, at least not via Customize. You might be able to add some code to the userChrome.css file to move it. I'll see if I can do that and give you further instructions, but it won't be for a few hours.
But then again, I may be wrong.

I spent some time on this last night, and I'm afraid if it's possible to move the button, it's beyond my skills to come up with the code. A lot of the look of the SM GUI is easily changeable with a little CSS, but I can't figure this one out. Sorry.
But then again, I may be wrong.

For SeaMonkey 2.0
In comm.jar
in folder
\content\navigator\
in file
tabbrowser.xml
find string for close tab button:

<xul:toolbarbutton class="tabs-closebutton close-button" xbl:inherits="disabled=disableclose,oncommand=onclosetab,tooltiptext=tooltiptextclose"/>

replace it with string for new tab button:

<xul:toolbarbutton class="tabs-newbutton" xbl:inherits="oncommand=onnewtab,tooltiptext=tooltiptextnew"/>

Hello everyone,

I'm facing this problem running SeaMonkey 2.9.1, I can't move the "add tab" button, and it is completely uncomfortable to have to go to the left to press the button. I'd like it to be shown just like in Firefox, at the right.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and installed SeaMonkey 2.9.1 through the Ubuntuzilla repository.

Could please anybody help me?

Thank you very much in advance
