This goes along with the first name poll. This poll has completely different options if what you liked was not in the other poll. If there is anything missing from this poll start another.

Try and limit your own personal contribution to 1 or 2 options otherwise we will have tons of people creating polls(because each person uses only their own contributions). Also, make sure that whatever you enter as an option isnt already in the first two poll threads. The winners from each poll thread will go into a final poll.

Not sure of the usefullness of this, the developers can and should name it whatever they want(its their browser)

Someone suggested "Athena" before.

Sounds very nice: clean, classic, beautiful...

and sweet danger, ripening from within."

Yeah, Photon is the name of the GUI for QNX.

Not that anybody uses QNX, but it was fun to play around with for a while :)

One of the other names might be more apropos, though.

Hmmmm.... .how about Apropos?

And on second thought, why not something like "Apropos"?
All the suggestions have been more or less nouns or nonsensical, cool-sounding words.

But look:

ap·ro·pos (ăp'rə-pō')
adj.
Being at once opportune and to the point. See synonyms at relevant.

Thanks to the American Heritage Dictionary, 4th Ed. for that.

Doesn't "apropos" quite thoroughly describe this browser? Opportune in that it's suited to the purpose of web browsing, and to the point in that it's succinct and not bloated....

Some of these names most certainly have meanings behind them.

Look for Proxima Centauri in the name thread. Its the closest red dwarf star to our sun and elements of the writeup I found go right along with the ph* project.

Look up Paragon at dictionary.com (under the thesaurus page)

Zool/XUL is in/from Ghostbusters and its how you pronounce XUL, which mozilla and Phoenix are based on. XUL is the interface bit, Gecko is the engine. Alot of the offspring projects like Galeon, Kmeleon, etc are based on Gecko but not XUL. Phoenix is based on both.

Please not firefly, that has several votes. A web browser named after a great bird is one thing, but after an insect is not, IMO.

It is a bit late, but my suggestion, SongBird

- As the poll have a quarter of unsatisfied (25% "non of above" ) :)
- As I have read that a lizzard is wanted - should fit gecko / mozilla family ;)
Let suggest Basilic - kind of mythic lizzard , or dragon, but wich is quicker and powerful
It was said to kill in 1 eyeshot - it looks at you ...you are dead, :o
It is also an aromate used in pasta for example
and a wonderful tropical lizzard

illustration in french, sorry ( it is french word also)

I'm not sure such a pre-selection was a good idea.

this is also for the people who have a fav new name on the other poll. saying none here means look at the other poll, as well, not that all the names are icky. my guess is that they voted none here so they could vote firebird on the part 1 poll. ;)

Alot of those names are in the long name thread. Why dont you start part 3 using those names in the poll?

Exactly. Don't suggest names here. Vote. Discuss the vote. That's it.
