For some reason I cant use ftp. When I try I get an error messages saying:

"This doesnt appear to be a valid file. Here's what I got back from ftp://username:pass@www.site.com/httpdo ... aFile1.ics Result: "

Then I get in firefox:

written to the screen. I have entered a few events like most tutorials tell you but it doesnt work. Its finding the file but not downloading. If I tell it the http: address it downloads and displays but I cant upload the file. Any reason why its not reading the file correctly?

Thanks for any help.

Are you using Sunbird? If you are using Calendar, which base product is it in? Which version?

FTP is not supported in Thunderbird, but otherwise it normally works.

Calendar for Thunderbird. Hmm maybe I should download Sunbird. I just liked the idea linking apps.

"The future is uncertain" -- Chinese fortune cookie ;)

At the moment there's a lot of stuff going on with the core-code, so we still have to wait a bit for new features.

I am using Sunbird 0.20 on Windows XP and am trying to use a remote calendar on my ftp site. I've tried to access it via the same format listed in the first message in this thread. However, when I click to load the remote calendar nothing happens. What is the correct format to use. Here is what I've tried:

ftp://user:pass@ftp.site.com/Calendar/file.ics

Thanks.

That is the correct format. It is more secure not to include the password there—Sunbird then prompts you for it.

The issue appears to be connecting to an FTP server that utilizes VSFTP (very secure FTP). I have had the same problem with not being able to use the FTP features in Firefox with this server. Does anyone else have any insight into this.

I suppose Mozilla does not yet support the security extensions. This support would in core networking, not the Calendar project, because as you say it applies to other Mozilla products too. You can search Bugzilla to find out whether it has ever been requested. If not, you can create a new bug report for it.

I must admit my knowledge of Bugzilla is limited. How would I go about creating a bug report?

Bugzilla's front page has links to information. Essentially, you register as a user and use the helper wizard to create the bug. It would help the developers if you can provide some technical details of exactly what VSFTP requires.

you are not confusing the upload via ftp code vs. the code you need to download (=access) a remote calendar?

i think you should edit the calendar entry and put in the line of the remote URL: http://www.site.com/Calendar/file.ics

Some web sites use ftp for upload and http for download. Calendar does not support this.

Calendar supports either ftp for both upload and download, or http for both upload and download.
