hi,

can we have the ability please to leave sunbird resident in the system even if its window is closed.

it is too easy to close the application, after which you miss out on alarms etc.

there are plenty of other needed improvements to Calendar. It's not fit for prime time yet, but I hope it will be soon!

thanks

That page claims their program works with Sunbird. I've never tried it myself. Link is from:

Thanks, however this doesn't do anything for me. With Sunbird 0.2 it neither starts the app, nor causes it to be shown when it is running but hidden.

What I describe is a pretty essential feature for a calendar, so I strongly suggest that it be built in.

Paul.

The help has links to several Additional programs. Mostly, people use Suntray for Sunbird.

I think it is unlikely ever to be built in, because the tray is different in each operating system and probably in each desktop program. Also, not everyone needs it.

Suntray is much better. Even better if it could prevent Sunbird from being closed.

As for...

If software were written on this principle, a lot of programmers would be out of work....

Sunbird really needs to have taskbar integration for windows;
The taskbar icons should have option to show today's date instead of
the sunbird icon.

You need option to startup quietly in the taskbar. Also, iconfiy back to the
taskbar. I like taskbar programs which iconfiy even when you close the
window. That is a nice option on some programs I have. I like to have
to explicitly click File->Exit to exit a taskbar program because 99% of the
time I don't want to exit the program.

And there should be an option to have Sunbird started with windows.
I know you can set this up manually by moving it to the startup folder
or using another program, but you need to think about useability for
novice user's.

BTW I find the Sunbird icon very unharmonious. Why not stick with the Firefox colors?
The green bird doesn't connot "Sunbird".
And I don't think you should stick with Firefox's icon's ball shape. It works there because
you get the mental image of a fire-fox sweeping around the globe, but here you're trying
to show the Sunbird with a calendar not a globe.

I just noticed that Sunbird's new builds support extensions. I'm on the MinimizeToTray extension team, and I'll be extending the extension to support Sunbird as well.

This should be good solution for Windows users of Sunbird. I hope to have a build out of this extension within a week or two.

I got the extension working in the newest builds. You can download the extension here.
