Would it be possible to use a folder in IMAP4 to store events?

We could use IMAP4 - Append function to store the events in a folder. If we need to edit the event, we would append a new message and delete the last one.

Does this sound doable?

For "Busy"/Shared events, we could use a Shared Folder on the IMAP server.

This would basically make setup of a server VERY easy, and use already existing Standard protocols.

that sounds great for me too.

I know there are several groupware clients that do store calendar inside imap like kolab
I also know that they are not compatible with each other because of a lack of standard.

imap folders have acl for right management. there are also LOTS of free imap providers...

ical seems not scalable for me. storing the whole calendar in a single file is really poor...

definitely storing events and tasks in imap would severely optimize bandwidth, and change calendar/sunbird from a gadget to a real professionnal software... ;-)
