Thunderbird: recover lost email default profile (Linux)

Hi Friends!
A friend of mine, form Ubuntu 16.04, moving Thunderbird default profile folder from A to B, has deleted the entire Thunderbird contents.
Do you know if exist any solution for this issue?
For example, the filesystem is ext4, do you think possible to "natively" undelete these files?
As another chance, could be possible to use testdisk/photorec?
Or do you see other possibilities?

You might get better suggestions if you provide more details on how the profile was accidentally deleted and what they've already tried (if anything).

I'm speaking in general terms here, but in *nix, delete pretty much always means DELETE.

That's what backups are for!

Is your friend quite sure that there are no backups? Does s/he have cloud storage, like Dropbox or Amazon Drive, that automatically backs up their data? Or external drives (thumb drives, hard drives, networked computers) where they back up data? What about a previous computer that's still sitting around? Its contents would be outdated, but at least they'd be a start.

The directory profile, was moved (mv on Linux) to usb key, where renamed, deleted, renamed, deleted, etc, etc...
