The update to 78 just wiped out my formatting. I keep right clicking on the second bar on the page, the one with the reply/reply list/forward/etcetera, to make it live so I can swap those buttons around, then right clicking all over the page. There's nothing in the customize window I can find to help me make 'reply' be the second button, and I can't find instructions on Google, it's all about opening the window and moving things off it. I remember not getting it last time this happened, many years ago.

I need to put 'reply list' in the front, because that's what I mostly do. About 99% of the time, probably more. If it's not in front, I end up replying only to one person, not the group.

Thanks for the help

Are you talking about the message header toolbar?

I don't know what the hell they call it. I've been looking for a diagram words and arrows that point to the different parts of the page.

This part has From, Subject and To stacked on the left side. Directly above it is where the inbox is. Moving horizontally, past the middle, it has the buttons that call up the format you want to use, reply to one, reply to all, forward to someone else, archive, junk, delete, more with an arrow under it. I have it set so it's about halfway down the page.

Try using the addon.

* open Tools > Addons
* search for Message Header Toolbar Customize
* install it
* select the "More" button
* from there select "Customize Toolbar"
* customize

Ok. It looks like it got hosed a few minutes back when I updated and I *DO* need an add on if I want to customize. This is going to take me forever. Thank you so much for your help, and giving me the name of the bar that I knew was *not* the address bar, but not its other name.

Customize message header toolbar of Thunderbird 78
Thunderbird 78 removes customization of message header toolbar. Toolbar buttons occupy large area of the header.

It is filed as the following bug but it seems a long term activity.

It looks like I got it done, and I'm really glad I had your instructions. It probably saved me hours of cursing. And it did NOT take me forever.
