After re-installing Thunderbird I lost my contacts data. In which file does Thunderbird saves my contacts data so I can back-up this file?

To answer your specific question, Thunderbird stores contact data in files with the extension .mab. There will be at least two such files for each Thunderbird installation.

It sounds as though you may be viewing a new profile created during the update. See this thread -- viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3055005&p=14844743#p14844743

I re-installed Thunderbird some weeks ago and used it without problems (the re-instalment of Thunderbird was forced by problems with Windows 10 that I had to re-install). In AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/profiles/[profile] I found abook.mab, abook-1.mab and abook-2.mab. Could these be the contacts list of the Personal address book and the two address books I added? Can I cut and past these to disc D: so they can 'automatically' be back-uped with the back-up of D:?

Those would seem to be the address book files (contact records) from your Thunderbird installation. As to just moving them to the D: drive, no. Thunderbird looks for those files within the profile folder. Move them to another drive and Thunderbird won't find them.

See this article for information on moving the Thunderbird profile folder -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder

To prevent the problems I had I installed Thunderbird on the D: drive (not a partition of the C: disc) and everything functions as expected. Is moving the profile folder a solution? Or is moving the complete Thunderbird folder, now in AppData on the C: drive, better?

Now I'm confused. You installed Thunderbird to the D: drive. Why would you ask about moving files to the D: when you've already installed Thunderbird to that drive?

The files in AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/profiles/[profile] are on the C: drive.

See about moving the entire profile to the D: drive based on the link I posted above.
