I would be grateful if somebody could tell me how to ensure the precise specified display name is used when the initial letter and return are typed in 'To'.

For example if I type 'f' I want 'Fred' to display and not 'fred'.

That would involve ensuring that the record associated with that display name actually reflects the capitalization in both the display name field and the email address field.

The display name field is: Fred

Do you have this set?

Menu Path:
[If running on Windows]: Tools | Options, or
[If running on OSX]: Thunderbird | Preferences, or
[If running on Linux]: Edit | Preferences
.. then Display | Advanced | Show only display name for people in my address book

That was it - many thanks.

With it set it now works correctly albeit showing the wrong one for a few seconds.
