Is there any way to stop the Address Bar box from enlarging when focus is placed upon it? Especially noticed when opening a new tab which places focus on the Address Bar by default... causing it to enlarge and partially cover adjacent UI elements like the Home Button, Menu toolbar and Bookmarks toolbar.

Or a way to get rid of its drop shadow which significantly affects bookmarks toolbar.

I... don't know why Mozilla had to make this change >:V

Thank you for the link. For anybody curious, disable these preferences in about:config

browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
browser.urlbar.update1
browser.urlbar.update1.interventions
browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips

looks like they're going to remove our ability to disable the new design pretty soon so a Chrome.css will be the only way in the future (if at all):

No doubt leading to their next project, removing the Search Bar ?
@Why the heck doesn't a second click on the bar disappear it.......and I see it's pretty much just duplicating sidebar history. (*,)

Here is a userChrome.css fix.

Code: Select all
/* Firefox userChrome.css */

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

#urlbar[breakout-extend] {
  top: calc((var(--urlbar-toolbar-height) - var(--urlbar-height)) / 2) !important;
  left: calc((var(--urlbar-toolbar-width) - var(--urlbar-width)) / 2) !important;
  width: 100% !important;
}

#urlbar[breakout-extend] #urlbar-input-container {
  height: calc(var(--tab-min-height) - 3px) !important;
  padding: 0 !important;
}

.urlbarView {
  margin: 0 !important;
  width: 100% !important;
}

.urlbarView-row {
  padding: 0 !important;
}

How do I disable the megabar?

This is what I was looking for as well, thanks... bloody hell Mozilla.

Actually, with the provided code, I noticed that the url bar moves up slightly and becomes slightly thinned by a couple of pixels. Is there not a way to make it just stay in place and the same size? Thanks.

With morat's code, I too am seeing very slight movement and misalignment of the urlbar. Much better than without that code, but still minor movement of the whole box downward.

When I changed the about:config settings as Franpa posted above, there is no movement at all. So I will use that method for now, though Franpa says it is a temporary solution.

Without any changes to FF75, in addition to the url box moving, the url suggestions are listed without a box and are overlayed over the displayed web page content without any background (or a transparent one). It makes both the suggestions and the underlying web page content unreadable. Obviously a major FF error in version 75, at least on my Windows 10 64-bit system.

I don't see the misalignment. However, the css isn't smooth on the focus event. ( i.e. border flickers )

The pref isn't working in Firefox 77.

Thanks this worked by undoing the UI change. About to call this browser MicroFox since Mozilla can't leave good alone and keeps screwing CSS code its becoming unmanageable. :evil:
