Okay this is not the certificates error from earlier this month. But whenever I install and use a new addon, it works fine. When I restart ff, those addons are disabled. I enable them and they work fine but annoying that they get disabled after next run. I do remember having to use about:config to tweak settings but I can't remember which ones.

About the only thing that I can suggest is to get back into the about:config screen and click on the Status heading and your settings will be sorted to show all the ones that have been modified. I suppose that you could create a new profile and using its prefs data do a little comparison between the two.
As you can see she's (The CAT) always alert and on the prowl for Meoware !!

Which extension(s)?
What does their state show in Addons Manager, anything more then just "disabled"?

If you create a new, Profile, install said extension, then restart, is that extension also disabled in that new Profile?
And again, assuming it was left enabled, some time later, if you restart that same Profile again, is it still enabled?
(Asking this in case it is something to do with blocklist & said blocklist might not be update, initially, to block it on first install of extension.)

oh my god this is such a pain in the ass. All because of the addons/certificate error this month. I've had like 3 different problems even after reinstalling and restoring my profile like a dozen times now. I tried a new profile and trying to install an addon gets me the message "download failed, check your connection". i'm using FF56 so I don't know if that makes a difference. And every time I use the profile manager, and use a new profile, apparently firefox updates itself. and i dont even know how that is happening since i have "never install updates" on all profiles.

In your 56 install - BEFORE RUNNING it:

{path-to-FF 56 install}\defaults\pref\channel-prefs.js:

Edit channel-prefs.js (text editor), changing:

Code: Select all
pref("app.update.channel", "release");

to:
Code: Select all
pref("app.update.channel", "ENTER-YOUR-WANTED-EXPLICATIVE-HERE");

If you're going to run 56 & Quantum, set up separate Profiles for each, & shortcuts that run the correct FF version against the associated Profile.

(FF 67 may throw a wrench into that deal, not sure, as clueless, currently, as to how 67 "interacts" with "instances" or even "profiles"?)

No, I wasn't trying to run quantum at all.

in the new profile the addons do not get disabled after restart. So here are two screenshots of my about:config settings for my regular profile-

Yes, every time cert8.db or cert9.db in your profile may be removed or created anew, the hotfix will be needed again.

What explanation does Firefox give for the extensions being disabled? Or are they disabled without any explanation and can be re-enabled by clicking Enable?

i posted two images of my about:config settings

Not sure that is relevant.

No explanation, no messages or anything. Can be re-enabled anytime. As I said in this post, the addons being disabled are likely due to me having tweaked the about:config settings recently. A new profile does not have this problem. Also, maybe this is related- videos and gifs in facebook do not play. Some do, but only like 1 out of 10. I tried it in a new profile, same issue. Facebook videos and gifs work just fine in IE.
