I am using Thunerbird 28, ubuntu 12.04. I go iinto account settings set what I want and next time I goto settings what I set is gone. Don't even have to restart Thunderbird for this to happen.

Didn't help at all. Ihave gotten rid of the pref.js file and reinstalled TB28 a coupleof times. Found out that theprefrences are set upon install and you cannot change them even if you go to advanced.

Did find a couple of the prefrences in pref.js files and changed them, which worked. But did not find, or did not recognize, any for the newsgroups there. Which arethe onesI want.

I want to be able to change the settings in news groups so I can get Thunderbird to authenticate.
As it is using eternal-september wont pass on my user nameor password so I can get newsgroups.

I forgot to mention that I got rid of FF28 and installed FF24 and am having the same problems.
Disabled plugins and that did no good. Made sure when I uninstall TB there is no remnants of it remaining in my file system.

If you are referring to something in "News & Blogs" there are no server setting options there. If that's not what you are referring to, which specific setting are you trying to change?

In TB cilck on one of the accounts so it is highlighted. Click on-. view settings for this account. click on- ServerSettings. I want to be able to change the- connection security, check for messages at startup, all ways request authentication when connecting to this server settings.
As far as the settings you were asking about I never heard of them.

I am sorry. I just realized what I was calling them. I should be account settings. Should I open another thread?

No, you can edit the subject of your first post if you feel that would be helpful.

Note that Thunderbird 28.0 is not a Release build and barely a Beta build (28.0b1). The current Tb release is 24.4.0

You're right James. I should have moved this to Thunderbird Builds from the start.

Doing some testing to see what is wrong I found out I get the same results using another version of TB. 24 to be exact.
The things Ihave tried since first posting were;
Tried uninstalling, made sure there was no trace of 28 left on my computer, reinstalled.
Restarted with addons disabled.
Removed pref.js.
Removed profile.
Uninstalled as above, but installed 24.
Tried to change settings while installing thru the advance button.
Nothing works.

Its been stable on my system until a few days ago. It wouldn't connect to my email server.
So I got rid of the pref.js file which makes it think its a new install. Reset my email sever but it won't let me set any of the account settings.
See my earlier post.
