My Thunderbird 64-bit seems to run slower than my previous 32-bit install. Can I convert back to 32-bit version?

Close all applications and reboot the computer.
Download a new copy of the full installer for 32bit from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/a ... op-release
Delete the directory C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (or it might be C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox as you were using the 32bit previously)
Run the installer.
Firefox will locate and use the existing profile.

Dan, thanks for the info. You noted Firefox, but I'm asking about Thunderbird. Would the same apply?

Oops. Sorry about that.

Basically, yes. The program location would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird (or C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird)
Get the installer from this site -- https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/
