I want to send a text message with a (small) picture attachment to my cell phone using Tbird.
If so... How?

1. Thunderbird doesn't directly support SMS. But you can email to services that will deliver SMS.
2. I'd think that any issues depend on the services provided on the receiving end support, for example handling of images. My attempt to email an image to <myphone#>@cingularme.com - text received, minus the image
3. I don't see how the post from 2014 is relevant

I stand corrected. I thought you meant there are issues with Thunderbird.
