For a few days I've been having trouble with Firefox being slow to resume after I've left it alone for a while. If I try to open a new tab as an initial action, it can take from a few seconds to half a minute before Firefox gets around to responding — both to open the tab, or to react to any other input in general.

I pulled up Process Explorer to check CPU usage, and one of the Firefox processes was maxing out a CPU for an extended period of time. If I opened that process up and checked its threads, what I saw was:

Stack call saturating one CPU core:

0x0000000000000000
VCRUNTIME140.dll!memcpy+0x21f
xul.dll!soundtouch::SoundTouch::operator=+0x2244942

Stack call with next highest usage (~2%):

0x0000000000000000
xul.dll!soundtouch::SoundTouch::numChannels+0x260faa
xul.dll!XRE_GetBootstrap+0x1384e5
xul.dll!soundtouch::SoundTouch::numChannels+0x263c28
xul.dll!soundtouch::SoundTouch::numChannels+0x49cd7e
xul.dll!DumpCompleteHeap+0x30cfed
xul.dll!workerlz4_compress+0x26b76e
xul.dll!XRE_GetBootstrap+0x1d16b
xul.dll!XRE_GetBootstrap+0xfe9bd
xul.dll!XRE_GetBootstrap+0x1cdaf
xul.dll!XRE_GetBootstrap+0x1cd28
xul.dll!XRE_GetBootstrap+0x37621
xul.dll!XRE_GetBootstrap+0x1c5d4
xul.dll!soundtouch::SoundTouch::numChannels+0x23416a
KERNEL32.DLL!BaseThreadInitThunk+0x14
mozglue.dll!DllBlocklist_Initialize+0x122d
ntdll.dll!RtlUserThreadStart+0x21

The only thing related I see in Bugzilla is an update to libsoundtouch 2.1.2 a couple of months ago. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue.

Tired of constant Firefox UI changes? XUL extensions are not working anymore? Try SeaMonkey, Waterfox Classic, Pale Moon.

How much system RAM?
How much RAM was FF using?
Had FF spooled out to disk?
Had disk gone to "sleep"?
Running other memory intensive programs during this time?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

12 GB

Right now: 480+16+314+213+141+226+183+270+18+162+126+357+139 = 2,645 MB = 2.6 GB. (Opening a new tab takes the usual minute or so, though hitting reply on this already opened tab had it respond promptly.) I'm definitely uncomfortable with that much RAM being used, as Firefox has a tendency to have its performance degrade pretty badly as its memory usage goes up. At the moment, 42 tabs are open, though most shouldn't be loaded.

I'm not actually sure, though I can see that the private bytes in the performance graphs section of Process Explorer's details window declined as it reached the end of the high-CPU period. Is there a way to check how much of a program has been pushed to virtual RAM?

Currently used RAM according to Resource Monitor is about 6 GB, with 6 GB on standby.

Virtual RAM and profile are on an SSD, so there shouldn't be an issue with "sleep".

No more than usual.

They managed once again to expire an intermediate certificate.
bug 1613275 - TREES CLOSED - Expired PSM test certificates.

Would that have caused the delay (skip) for 73.0b12 (there is a 73.0 RC1) ?

I know there is a 73.0 RC.
I got updated from 73.0b11 to 73.0 RC1 and I just was curious why I got a 73.0 b12 for DE and not for Beta last week.

Mozilla wanna play catchup to Chrome, they dont care about fixing bugs, they just want faster versions out
