Retained display lists just crash the first 59 nightly when browsing facebook.

Edit: Thankfully only this one time crash, cannot re-produce after re-enable retained lists as default.

My checkerboarding problems are getting worse and worse... Sometimes I have a checkerboard for seconds, without any real load on the CPU.

If by "checkerboarding" you mean what is normally called "artifacting" -- that is not caused by the CPU but the video card. Gamers see it at times when a game is too 'intense' for their card. Or it can be caused but overheating the video chip. Look for a dirty cabinet and/or video fan.

My video card fan speeds up and slows down as needed and if it should get too hot - it has not, yet - it shuts down..

No I mean the checkerboarding that comes from APZ - so whole white non painted areas while scrolling.
