The author of this extension has informed me a few days ago that he would soon add my French translation fr-FR.
Since, I lost the translation I made several months ago (it was bugged ...), so I recreated an extension with en-US + fr-FR + sv-SE.

In addition, my old up was dead, I have now uploaded to multiple hosts, here (I hope this will be sufficient ^^) :

Links broken for security reasons. Because we can not control what is hosted there use the links at your own risk.

Open link in... has three new locales! Thanks go to the generous people who have provided us with German (de-DE), French (fr-FR) and Russian (ru-RU). Swedish (sv-SE) has also been enhanced. I'll happily include any further locales that people provide before the release of Firefox 3.6 (currently in its fourth beta), but locales received after this date will not be added until I next update this add-on, which will be in preparation for Firefox 3.7 or whenever I need to fix a bug.

Here's version 1.8 for Firefox 3.5 – 3.6.

No functionality changes since 1.7.1; just some new and updated locales (de-DE, fr-FR, ru-RU, sv-SE).

NOTE: I have no plans to change existing keyboard and mouse shortcuts, nor to implement new ones in this extension. This would be quite complicated, as it would have to override lots of defaults set up elsewhere. Indeed, the main point of this extension is to provide the missing graphical UI which corresponds to the existing keyboard and mouse shortcuts which the application provides for opening links.

Great extension that I've been fondly using for a while now, but any chance of it being updated?

Hi sabret00the, glad you like it! But in what way do you need it updated? For a new Firefox version, or with specific new features?

I'd like for it to be updated for Firefox 4.

I've used this for years, but without an update for FF4 I gave in and found the functionality elsewhere, albeit not as nice. I'll watch to see if it ever gets updated and put it back if it does.

bschmitt13, what are you currently using?

I also wait anxiously for an update. It's either this or hack the tabs to the bottom of the window.

Sorry for the delay... I'm very busy on other projects at the moment. I'll do my best to update it this week!

This was the last addon keeping me from upgrading to Firefox 4 and I grew impatient. I modified the version numbers myself allowing it be installed in FF4. So far, it's been working great.

You can download the modified version from:

"So far" being the operative words...;-). The reason it has taken a while to get around to updating this add-on is because various core things have changed in Firefox between 3.6 and 4.0, including the way links and images are funneled into tabs and windows. Relentence, are you sure that the appropriate security checks are being performed on the dispatched URLs in Firefox 4? I certainly wasn't, which is why I've had to wait until there's been enough time to dedicate to investigating and updating this add-on. I also suspect that the 3.6 version isn't able to open Firefox 4's canvas images in tabs, and that the new tab/window functionality fails for tabs that have been "pinned" to the Windows taskbar in Windows 7.

I sympathize with people getting impatient, but please be very cautious of forcing add-ons to work in newer browser versions because you can open yourself up to security flaws. In the end, however, I don't think there were any security problems with bumping the 3.6 add-on to work with Firefox 4 in this specific instance, so there's no need to worry if you did go down that route or if you installed the unofficial one posted above, but please bear this in mind for future!

Anyhow, the good news is that today's public holiday has provided the needed time to do the necessary update. You can download it from the post below.

Cheers

Here's version 1.9 for Firefox 4.0—6.0

No functionality changes since 1.8; just an update for compatibility with Firefox 4—6.

VERSION:
1.9

TARGET:
Firefox 4—6
(See here for versions of this extension that work on lower versions of Firefox.)

DOWNLOAD:
Here.

FUNCTIONALITY:
Adds items to the "right-click" context menu (CM) for links, images and background images in a webpage.

* Open in New Tab honours the user's tab opening default as specified in
Tools -> Options | Tabs | When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately.
Only one of 'Open in Background Tab', 'Open in Foreground Tab' appears, according to the opposite of the user's default.

The context menu items are:

When right-clicking a Link
-----------------------------
The context menu contains either the following new items in addition to the standard "Open Link in New Tab" and "Open Link in New Window":

Open Link in Background Tab *
Open Link in Foreground Tab *
Open Link in Background Window
Open Link Here [ie in the current tab/window]

or, if the user prefers, all link menu items are removed and replaced with a new CM submenu called "Open Link in..." containing:

New Tab
Background Tab *
Foreground Tab *
New Window
Background Window
Here [ie in the current tab/window]

When right-clicking Images and Background Images
------------------------------------------------------------
The standard "View (Background) Image" menu items are removed and replaced with new CM subfolders called "View (Background) Image in..." which provide:
Background Tab *
Foreground Tab *
New Tab *
Background Window
New Window
Here [ie in the current tab/window]

I'll happily include any new locales that people provide.

Just wanted to say thanks for updating this extension. I've been using it for years, so much so that without it firefox just doesn't feel right.
Regards, Jon.
