The knowledge base wiki is currently in read-only mode in preparation for the web site being shut down and its contents archived. However, the admin hasn't shut down the forums, and has been unreachable for several months. We have found a potential replacement admin but the current admin has not replied to any email. We don't know whats going on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please use this thread to post any requests for a knowledge base account, discuss problems with the knowledge base, or share information that you'd like somebody else to add to the knowledge base. The knowledge base is a wiki that is used to share answers/information, its not a way to get help on your problem (use the forums for that). In general, anybody can have a knowledge base account for the asking. Please provide a brief explanation of what you'd like to (initially) edit/create. The main reason for asking for that information is to verify that you understand the purpose of the wiki is to share information, not ask for help. We used to also require a history of contributing to this community, but as an experiment, that restriction has been removed. You don't need to be an expert or technical to contribute. Other editors will clean up the article if you don't have the time to read all of the guidelines. The official support forum requires a formal review of any edits to their wiki before they are publicly available. We don't follow that model, all edits are automatically made public. Nobody "owns" an article, anybody can edit any article. Its a pretty informal community. The login page at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Special:Userlogin is confusing. There have been several attempts to fix it but they caused worse problems. The basic problem is that our site admin doesn't have the time to update the wiki software to something recent. So for now, we just have to live with it. If you post a request for a KB account and nobody replies within 3 days please send me a private message.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installing_extensionsDeprecated (as of Gecko 1.9.2, FF 3.6.x, TB 3.1.x): Restart your Mozilla application with the following command line arguments:
No, not deprecated. Obsolete. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396510Copy the .xpi file into the <installation directory>\extensions folder (<installation directory>\browser\extensions folder, in Firefox 21 and above [1]).
At the very least swap the text around, putting the current information first. start Firefox as a user who has write permissions to <installation directory>\extensions
As mentioned above, it's <installation directory>\browser\extensions since Firefox 21.

Hi! I'm running Firefox 29.0 on Ubuntu 12.04. I wanted it to open smb:// links in nautilus. I followed the instructions at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol#Firefox_3.5_and_above but they're incomplete. One must set to true the boolean variable network.protocol-handler.external.smb for Firefox to ask which application to open links with.

Unfortunately due to vandalism of the KB in the past we like to vet new members before we give out a KB account. No reflection on you but we don't know you at all

Not sure if this is the right spot, but http://kb.mozillazine.org/ seems to be down and/or non responsive. Browser just keeps spinning its wheels.

In this article in the knowledge base: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installing_an_SMIME_certificate the last section is titled "Other people's self-signed certificates". It purports to say how to import someone else's self-signed root certificate into Thunderbird. Actually, Thunderbird won't let you do that.

For http://kb.mozillazine.org/Date_display_format or Date_display_format page in the External links section the link for International ISO-8601 Date Format on Thunderbird should be updated to its current URI: <http://terokarvinen.com/international_iso-8601_date_on_thunderbird.html>.

I would like to edit, add an option to http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP_folder_cannot_be_deleted. * your imap server might not support folders in folders, so deleted folder cant be send to folder Trash. You should go to (account settings - server - extension - imap server doesnt provide folder that can contains folders - please add correct english names, I have localised version only). I think this should be the first option. Current first option makes not only folders, but messages too be removed instanlty, what is not good. Thank you.
